Ok, so I have a blog.
It’s blank and dreaming of content to enthral the general public and motivate the masses into a revolution.
But it remains blank.
Why do I have this online presence? Why is it blank?
Initially, I signed up so I could post on blog entries by some friends of mine…now I feel the pressure mounting to add words of wisdom to the world wide web, my friends are doing it and so should I!
The irony though is that it’s not really the World Wide Web any more. It’s the national thin web. Back in the day, the internet was full of people’s personal websites that were created for no apparent reason. I had one. It contained information on what I liked and didn’t like. Details of my friends and rants about stuff that had annoyed me. I guess the blog is the modern version, trying to bring the internet back to the public after it has been hijacked by multi-nationals and companies who pay search engines to appear top of the listings.
But the fact still remains, who is going to see my blog? Those people I tell about it I guess and perhaps some of their friends who stumble across a link to it.
So what really is the purpose of a blog? Not to inform the world and start a revolution (unless you are one of the few who does actually hit it big time and wins an award or gets their blog turned into a book!). It’s basically like a diary isn’t it, but a diary you don’t put all your secrets in because your friends regularly read it!
But still, that’s all good. I am rubbish at contacting people and I like to write so this way, I can keep my friends better informed and write random rubbish for the sheer enjoyment and therapy of it. In the words of Alan ‘Lovely Stuff’.
Of course, if someone random does stumble across my page, they will may read something I have written and then my not-so-wise words will reach a greater audience. An audience of nosey people who want to have a sneak peak into the lives of people they don’t know! After all…that’s the glory of the internet! Anonymous snooping.
Or perhaps I am taking it too seriously and it’s just about writing and having a lark and expressing ones views. RELAX and write, that’s what I need to do rather than be too pre-occupied with whom might read it and what they might think!
Of course, the real presume mounts because those people who I know who do keep blogs keep really good ones! They are either well written or about "proper" topics!
Perhaps I need a theme...
